What Is an Essay About?Malcolm X's Learning to Read Essay has been credited with inspiring millions to embrace the written word. It has become the benchmark for reading instruction, increasing the literacy rates of young and old alike. It is an American publication, first published in 1970. It is very successful as a review, book report, literature review, essay writing and all around gift for teachers.It is believed that Malcolm X, the man who created the assignment, had read the textbook before hand. That is not so. He did not read the passage; he read it word for word. His intent was to go beyond what is read by the student.It was a revolutionary idea and the first part of the book, Learning to Read Essay, would discuss it. The second part of the book discussed Malcolm X's thoughts on education. It would also offer guidelines for encouraging learning to read. He suggested that parents teach their children the principles of reading as well as language.The book went through several versions before the version that Malcolm X did be now published today. There were also ideas for stimulating educational reading development.The writing assignment focused on reading, as opposed to other activities such as playing or dancing, singing, drawing, or cooking. It should be noted that the original author of the book, Julius Marcus, added a twelve-step program in this written guide. He said that educational reading could be fun and that there was no limit to what reading could do for people. He said that people who read for pleasure did not get bored, nor did they struggle in school. He also felt that each person should be exposed to the written word, but it should be limited to reading for pleasure only.A few years after Malcolm X's Learning to Read Essay, Heidegger wrote another essay entitled The Work of Consciousness. It was published in 1923. Heidegger came up with this definition of the art of reading and he described how students should study for their classes as students. He saw reading as part of a process of realizing one's self. He claimed that reading should not be seen as a way of gaining knowledge. Instead, it should be used to determine if there is any truth in a particular text.It is said that his essay made a revolution in learning to read essay. It was seen as a stepping stone to the whole understanding of reading and the content was more than just a form of expression. He claimed that anyone could read for knowledge. What is important is that reading should not only be a form of expres sion but a process that lead to reflection and contemplation.
